Firesign Theater Racist Facebook Group
I left the Firesign Theater Facebook group in April 2018 but not before I posted my
reason why; two of the last three posts I got from them were anti-Semitic and
insensitive to Native Americans. While Firesign Theater made fun of sacred
cows, I remember them being sensitive to both groups and blaming the
encroachment on Native Americans on commercialism. The comments from a few
members about the orthodox Jews covering a scantily clad photo of a woman on
the side of a truck were misguided. If that is the kind of people attracted to
a group from one of the funniest radio theater troupes, count me out. I
turned off all notifications from my final post and notified the
administrator. I joined the group less than a week ago.
Thirty-two members of Firesign Theater Facebook group’s 22k
members have commented on my farewell post about leaving because administrators
weren't banning anti-Semitic memes members were adding comments to. I haven't
read any comments; I believe they are mostly defending each other in the group.
I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, buy everyone a Coke,
but I can't. Perhaps the administrator is apologizing with the memes removed
and everyone is condemning the racist tendencies, but I'll never know.
